OpenCall Hearing/Seeing knows its finalists
The project of the Czech Philharmonic and Galerie Rudolfinum for the Year of Czech Music 2024 is entering its final phase. Fifteen audiovisual artists have advanced to the finals of the OpenCall Hearing/Seeing. For the Year of Czech Music, it was jointly prepared by the Czech Philharmonic and Galerie Rudolfinum with the support of the Lunchmeat Festival as an opportunity and support for young artists under 35 living in the Czech Republic.
The brief for the inaugural OpenCall, which attracted 83 applicants, was to design a visual representation of musical excerpts that would result in a final audiovisual work. The following 15 artists have been selected for the final round based on the evaluation of the expert jury. The expert jury included Julia Bailey (Galerie Rudolfinum), Prokop Jelínek (Czech Philharmonic), Jakub Pešek (Lunchmeat Festival), Jen Kratochvil (FAMU) and Pavel Mrkus (FUD UJEP, Signal Festival). Due to the high number of entries, the committee decided to postpone the announcement of the results in order to be able to make a quality evaluation. All applicants were informed about the postponement in time.
The finalists will now have to complete their submissions. The project will culminate in the autumn with an exhibition of the final audiovisual works on large screens in the Rudolfinum Ceremony Hall. Each of the exhibiting finalists will receive CZK 15,000 for their work as a declared expression of support for young artists.
