John Cage (born 1912 in Los Angeles, USA, died 1992 in New York, USA) is the only non-living artist represented at the exhibition. He has been included particularly because his approach to his art practice, his deliberate resonance and its impact on listeners, viewers and the public in general are a model of environmental thinking. It is an example of the fact that the expression environmental thinking may be fully perceived in terms of being holistic and as a hypersensitivity to the world around us, that we are a part of and that we co-create.
