Shirana Shahbazi: Then Again

The exhibition presents eighteen mostly large-format photographs by Shirana Shahbazi (* 1974 in Tehran, Iran, she lives and works in Zurich, Switzerland). The Exhibition is organised in co-operation with Fotomuseum Winterthur.

In recent times the author has combined colour and black and white still life images from geometric shapes or objects inspired by the Dutch still live images from the 17th century, such as flowers and various types of nature products with photographs from her older series, mainly portraits and landscapes. Here, Shahbazi expressively and yet matter-of-factly tells one of the crucial stories of art: the path of a picture from hyper-realistic imitation of reality to a geometric abstraction and non-topicality. Thanks to her individual approach to the theme, we are able to perceive her work as one of the opposite poles of the world of conceptual photography, which is represented by the concurrent exhibition of Bernd and Hilla Becher in the large halls of Galerie Rudolfinum.
