Maria Bartuszová & Prague. Talk by Gabriela Garlatyová | fragilités

Join us for a talk given by art historian Gabriela Garlatyová, entitled Maria Bartuszová & Prague. Childhood, youth, studies and returns.

The talk will focus on the connections of the artist Maria Bartuszová, whose work is part of the fragilités exhibition at the Galerie Rudolfinum, to her hometown of Prague. You will hear information about Bartuszová’s childhood and studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, and about the exhibitions that the artist had in Prague and visited here, especially the important Louise Bourgeois retrospective at the Galerie Rudolfinum in 1995.

The talk is part of the accompanying programme to the fragilités exhibition. Admission to the exhibition is free.

Mgr. Gabriela Garlatyová, Ph.D. is an art historian, curator of the Maria Bartuszová Archive in Košice, the Municipal Gallery in Rimavská Sobota, and assistant professor at the Department of Theory and History of Art at the Faculty of Arts of the Technical University in Košice. After completing her doctoral studies at Charles University’s Department of Art, she defended her dissertation entitled Maria Bartuszová (1936–⁠1996): Sculptural Work in the Context of Art. She focuses on contemporary art and the art of the 1960s to 1980s. She took part in preparing exhibitions of Maria Bartuszová’s work at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (2015), Allison Jacques Gallery in London (2016) and currently in the exhibition at Tate Modern in London. She is the editor of the monograph Maria Bartuszová (2021) and its English edition in the form of a catalog raisonné (2022). Gabriela Garlatyová is also the author of one of the texts included in the catalogue for the fragilités exhibition at the Galerie Rudolfinum.
