Art Sounds | Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED

Enjoy the music between the exhibited works. Art Sounds is a new joint programme of Galerie Rudolfinum and the Czech Philharmonic in the Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED exhibition.

On selected Tuesdays from 5 to 6 pm, you can experience a series of short musical performances by members of the Czech Philharmonic directly in the exhibition halls. Each performance is 10–13 minutes long. The repertoire freely responds to Zhanna Kadyrova’s exhibition and its themes and will be performed repeatedly on a given day. You have the opportunity to enjoy it several times in a row. Or you can opt for just one musical reflection and then move on through the exhibition.

Admission is free.

Tuesday, April 2:

Markéta Vokáčová violin solo

  • Programme:
Johann Sebastian Bach: Prelude in E minor from Partita No. 3
Eugène Ysaÿe: Prelude from Sonata No. 2 “Obsession” & Poco Lento“Malinconia”
The madness, sadness and absurdity emanating from Eugène Ysaÿe’s Second Sonata, combined with the traditionalism of Johann Sebastian Bach, together evoke an atmosphere of peaceful, normal life and then its disruption, the intrusion of the unwelcome and terrifying. In the last bars, which are a quotation of Gregorian chant, we say goodbye with a prayer for all those affected by the war.

All dates and programme:

Dear visitors, last entry to the exhibition is strictly 30 minutes before closing time. If you don’t have enough time today, you can see part of the exhibition now and return to the gallery on another day – admission is voluntary. Thank you for your understanding.
