Art Sounds | Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED
Enjoy the music between the exhibited works. Art Sounds is a new joint programme of Galerie Rudolfinum and the Czech Philharmonic in the Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED exhibition.
On selected Tuesdays from 5 to 6 pm, you can experience a series of short musical performances by members of the Czech Philharmonic directly in the exhibition halls. Each performance is 10–13 minutes long. The repertoire freely responds to Zhanna Kadyrova’s exhibition and its themes and will be performed repeatedly on a given day. You have the opportunity to enjoy it several times in a row. Or you can opt for just one musical reflection and then move on through the exhibition.
Admission is free.
Tuesday, May 7:
Pavel Ciprys and Dominik Trávníček viola, Timotej Ciprys vocal
- Programme:
Pavel Ciprys: De coelis, de profundis (meditation for solo viola and vocal)
Frank Bridge: Lament for Two Violas
Béla Bartók: Duos for two violas (selection)
The musical meditation De coelis, de profundis is inspired by a 15th-century Ukrainian chant. Frank Bridge’s Lament for two violas is a very inward piece with an explosive catharsis and subsequent silencing, as if the composer were waging a battle with his inner destiny, which cannot be won, but can only be accepted and reconciled. Frank Bridge’s life convictions were strongly pacifist, which was deeply reflected in his subsequent work during and after the First World War. This selection of 44 duos by Béla Bartók is inspired by songs and dances based on the folk music of many Eastern European countries. These short compositions are imbued with a harmonic and rhythmic freedom that brings the listener a sense of joy, youth and hope.
