Art Sounds | Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED

Enjoy the music between the exhibited works. Art Sounds is a new joint programme of Galerie Rudolfinum and the Czech Philharmonic in the Zhanna Kadyrova: UNEXPECTED exhibition.

On selected Tuesdays from 5 to 6 pm, you can experience a series of short musical performances by members of the Czech Philharmonic directly in the exhibition halls. Each performance is 10–13 minutes long. The repertoire freely responds to Zhanna Kadyrova’s exhibition and its themes and will be performed repeatedly on a given day. You have the opportunity to enjoy it several times in a row. Or you can opt for just one musical reflection and then move on through the exhibition.

Admission is free.

Tuesday, June 11:

Vojtěch Jouza English horn, Anna Sommerová viola

  • Programme:
Max Reger: Suite No. 1 in G minor for viola (Molto sostenuto a Vivace)
Ondřej Kukal: Duo Altocorniana for viola and English horn
Max Reger completed the suite for solo viola a year before his death. It builds on Bach’s works for solo violin or cello and emphasises the less frequently used polyphonic qualities of the solo viola. Ondřej Kukal’s Duo altocorniana is written for the unusual combination of viola and English horn. The music is characterized by dramatic communication with rich use of the virtuosic possibilities of both instruments. This statement by a contemporary composer corresponds with the theme of the exhibition.
